When I first received the invite to attend Corey Rae’s Break Out Party, I was unfamiliar with him as an artist and erroneously figured this was another amature artist hosting a lack-luster showcase. Sundays are normally my relaxation days, but a trusted friend of mines assured me this was an event I did not want to miss. On Sunday afternoon, I reluctantly prepared myself and eventually arrived at the Society Art Gallery with the mindset I would do an hour and then depart. Upon arrival, I immediately realized the error in my thinking. Greeted by the most warm and engaging security staff, we were escorted to the second floor in which credentials were checked and I was directed into the main room in which held almost to capacity, a room full of diverse, knowledgeable and eager supporters. I was intrigued…
Complimentary Champagne and Hors dourves were provided for guest. Sax legend, Ray Silkman and his 6 piece orchestra opened and entertained guest, complete with dancers and background vocalist. Legendary broadcaster, Robin Robinson of Fox News 32 introduced the headliner and Corey Rae descended upon the stage and serenaded us with a soft and sexy set from his upcoming LP, As I Am. His performance and skill-set was reminiscent of a modern day D’Angelo or Maxwell. His voice is sensual and emotion filled. He took his audience on an emotion filled journey that did not disappoint.
Corey Raé is a gifted young artist who captivates his audience with a soulful R&B sound as he sings from the heart! Born on August 10, 1990 in Chicago, Illinois, Raé discovered his vocal skills at the tender age of 4 and loved choiring for his neighborhood church. By the age of 8, Raé entered local voice competitions, performing songs such as the Jackson 5’s most popular hit, “Who’s Loving You”, and “People Make the World Go Round”. This inspired the young artist to journey cross-country to compete in over 22 talent pageants, including Apollo Kids” and “America’s Most talented Kid”.
With the love and aid of his dedicated Mother, who contributed more than her heart to her son’s budding career, he is now a “protégé” for successful singing and songwriting. These pivotal moments were a catalyst in Raé’s musical life, as he was first inspired to pursue his dream, realizing the magnitude and potential of his God-given musical talents. For the past 16 years, Raé has amazed audiences throughout the Chicagoland area with his melodic vocal abilities, capturing the attention of noted artists and famous musicians, such as Saxophonist, Producer and Songwriter, Ray Silkman. As an aspiring Pop/R&B singer/songwriter, Corey Raé signed his first management and production contract with Silkscreen Productions LLC in January of 2014, and is now embarking on releasing his first CD entitled, “As I Am”. The release is scheduled for late summer 2014 and his audiences will “bear witness” to the gifts of this up-and-coming performer.
Raé credits the multi-talents of Michael Jackson, Prince and Beyoncé for being his biggest musical influences and inspirations, as “music” has become one of the most significant passions in his life! Rae’s faith, determination and work ethic will elevate and escalate his career, and soon the name, “Corey Raé”will be a household name.
I am honored and appreciative that I was able to meet such a talent from Chicago. I am delighted to now call him a friend and will exhaust all due-diligence to support his efforts. If you are not familiar with his work, connect with him. This is definitely a grown & sexy representation coming out of Chicago and he is destined for greatness…Flyy…Cheers, Deo…..
