Many might say I’m a connoisseur of designer men’s underwear. Over the years, I’ve collected everything from Versace to John Galliano. To date, I am most vocal that my all-time favorite brand is David Beckham for H&M and Berdan New York by Julius Martin. I first met Julius over a year ago and he informed me the design strategy behind his collection was an undergarment designed for the upwardly mobile working man that gives the wearer the support, comfort and luxury they desire for 9-5 and the sexiness they want for “after-hours.” Initially, I assumed this was just another designer with clever marketing prose, but after receiving my first pair, I realized I’d discovered gold. Berdan has an international clientele, but it’s gained a cultish following among the sophisticates of Chicago. On Saturday, the brand hosted their spring trunk show at Esso’s complete with hor d’oeuvres, cocktails and live male modeling. The trendsetters of the city packed the building and I was impressed to see the line formed to snap up a pair of the highly coveted briefs. I enjoyed myself and I’m happy to call myself a friend of Julius and a supporter of the collection. If you have not already, check out the collection at http://berdannewyork.tictail.com/
Proud to be black. It’s beautiful……
