Postliminous 2015, when Alessandro Michele ascended the throne of Gucci as Creative Director, he has consistently established Gucci as one of the most compelling and top five collections each season. Fashion connoisseurs and label lords are entranced by his design stratagem which appears quite simple, yet provocative and dynamic! He often plays with the iconic house codes and modernize them by mixing together various aesthetics. For spring/summer 2022, the House introduces Gucci Pineapple, which is a playful collection of pieces that are part collegiate, part urban streetwear. Designed to feel youthful yet refined, the primary focus of this campaign is men, but as Gucci has leaned towards more gender fluidity in the last few years, the collection can truly appeal to whomever. Recognized by its iconic Gucci GG Supreme print and classic Gucci Web stripe, bags and other pieces from the collection are juxtaposed with a pineapple and rose print, defining the collection and adding a playful, colorful element to an otherwise classic print. Distinctly Gucci à la Alessandro Michele, Gucci Pineapple is said to be inspired by noble families’ coats of arms and their signature element of historical flags.
The pastel print is complimented by deeper hues of blue and green, a contrast between the two worlds of streetwear and collegiate culture. The campaign, which was shot at The Colony Hotel in Palm Beach, perfectly encapsulates the mood with its vivid backdrops, bringing to life the bright pieces of Gucci Pineapple. The retro-inspired series of images showcases the whimsical characters captured against the backdrop of a vintage-style hotel in Palm Beach. From the hotel hallways to the pool, a cast of characters tunes into the environment in looks that mix collegiate and streetwear aesthetics.
The folks from GQ perfectly surmised the brilliance of the collection by stating. This moment in menswear is all about radical personal style. The world’s most exciting dressers are embracing eccentricity with newfound zest. Fashion aside, you want to wear outfits that are chock-full of personality. There is perhaps no better season to embrace this mentality than spring, a time when bold prints and vibrant patterns are ripe for the picking. Gucci’s latest capsule delivers on that possibility with a sartorial-sporty mix and new-wave undercurrent—qualities that have continued to define this era of the Italian house under Creative Director Alessandro Michele….Cheers to Gucci Pineapple…I adore!… Deo
